Something that occurs to me is that the algorithm CT1BOH developed for use in ARCluster V6 to pick upbusted calls in RBN output might be adapted totest the premise that most uniques are busts. It delivers a numerical probability that a spot is in fact a bust, and if so, of what real, non-unique. Perhaps that could lead to a probabilistic approach to deciding which are which. I assume you guys are already running the uniques against qrz.com.

All,

As is often said on this channel, "calm down." No one is advocating that all
uniques be removed from logs and be classified as bad calls. Of course there are examples
such as Hans' QSO and others.

The point is that in a large contest such as the CQWW, it is very rare to work
a station that no one else has worked, thus suggesting that many of the unique
QSOs that show up in logs are probably busted calls.

A high ratio of uniques is nothing more than an indicator to a log checker for
most contests.

No worries -- your uniqueness is safe! See you in this thread in 2018 when we
pick up where we left off this time. :-)

Has anyone done anything interesting this summer to get ready for the fall
contest season?

I just worked 9K9Z in the AA test to fill a band/mode slot.

Hope he doesn't get demoted, as he's the only station I worked in that contest.

I guess that depends how much time the sponsors have to run them down. In
addition to checking whether Unassisted types are cheating. And who has
bad signals and should be DQed. Same for power cheaters. And ghost ops.
What have I left out?

After a while that could become a real 80 hour a week job.

I would argue that just because the call is unique, doesn't automatically
