I would of course agree with that ..but will add one thing.  When I was in 
college ..I worked at a ship to shore station (Amagansett Radio/WSL) doing CW 
and SITOR.  The Amateur ops in general were vastly superior to the commercial 
ones.  No idea why.

For 21 years I was a Navy Radioman, rising to Master Chief Radioman.  That was 
professional communications.  For 22 years after that I worked in the 
communications industry designing professional communications equipment.


What I've done for 50 years "off duty" with my toy radios is indeed amateurish 
in any comparison.

"Professional" contesters in "amateur" radio seems to be an oxymoron.
