know that we were all asked what the goal of major contests are. Major
contests, in my opinion, are about competition at the highest levels - not
about attracting new people. Is the Boston Marathon about getting people to
try running? Maybe through motivation in watching it - but not by
participating. Other contests should be potentially having this goal -
Field Day (whoops its not a contest - wink wink) or Regional QSO parties.
Not the best of the best contests.
W0MU stated: "Why can't contesting be both. A place for friends and novices
to get together and have a good time and have a chance to do well and feel
like you have a chance to win." Is there actually anything in life that
fits this goal? Winners have earned the right - hard work, practice, luck
recognized, skill, perserverance. Friends and Novices getting together to
have a good time should not be able to win something that takes the other
items to achieve. If they can, the goal line is way to easy to get to.
