Im not seeing what the concern is with respect to a multi-multi. Lets be
honest, many of the new kids who we've managed to get into the hobby are
not putting up huge towers at their home QTHs and they're not independently
making thousands of QSOs from home. Many of them are 1) teens who have to
get approval from the parents for a station (which requires money), and 2)
located in suburbs where HOAs rule the day and many of them CANNOT
effectively get on the air even if they wanted to from their homes in the
traditional sense of getting on the air.
When I was growing up in the 1980s, I had supportive parents but lived an
area where ham radio was granted with only indifference. I had a TA33-Jr
mounted on a roof tower which was - at best - 25 feet in the air. If you
wanted to make a "splash", more often than not you had to go to a host QTH
where an established ham had a couple of towers and some read hardware.
K6XT was the guy who really guided me along and I've been grateful to Art
ever since. Beyond Art there was Rick Craig's QTH (N6ND).
That a station owner is willing to open his station(s) up to new contesters
should be commended - not chastised.
