Well, it is like having a second operator to scan the band(s) for stations to work. And as they should, rules for some contests makes those using software (or firmware) to copy CW assisted. And the rules for many state QSO parties consider a driver for mobile operation a second operator. Both of these seem completely reasonable to me.
