On 25 March 1998, Lawrence VA3LGD proposed that a set of APIs be defined
for CT, to break it into smaller, more manageable chunks. The idea was to
allow Ken to focus on the program core, and allow others to contribute to
the peripheries such as rig control (which seems to require much more
support than is warranted).

I remember thinking what a good idea. Is it likely to happen at some stage,
or are APIs just too impractical for the present incarnation of the program?
