| Dick, In general, you are right. However, I use COM1 in this fashion. The cable from the computer goes to a modified RS-232 switch box that selects an internal SSTV demodulator or an internal keying circuit AND pass through to my PK-232. I get double duty from COM1 for CT and a one box, one switch solution for the RS-232, SSTV audio and keying....
