Here is the current forecast discussion on space weather and geophysical activity, issued 2018 Jan 02 1230 UTC.

Solar Activity

24 hr Summary: Solar activity continued at very low levels under a spotless solar disk. No Earth-directed CMEs observed in available coronagraph imagery.

Forecast: Solar activity is expected to remain very low all three days (02-04 Jan).

Energetic Particle

24 hr Summary: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at normal background levels, and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background values.

Forecast: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be at normal to moderate levels and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to continue at background levels all three days (02-04 Jan).

Solar Wind

24 hr Summary: Solar wind parameters reflected weak CH HSS effects. Solar wind speed began the period near 440 km/s before quickly increasing to 490 km/s. Wind speeds eventually decreased back down to near 430 km/s for most of the remainder of the period. Total field strength ranged between 2 nT and 7 nT, while Bz was variable between 4 nT and -5 nT. The phi angle oscillated between positive and negative for the majority of the period.

Forecast: Solar wind speed is expected to remain near 430 km/s for much of 02 Jan as the poorly connected extension of the north polar, positive polarity CH HSS continues to weakly influence the solar wind environment. Solar wind speed is expected to return to a more ambient-like background condition 03 Jan as the CH HSS rotates out of a geoeffective position. A return to an ambient, background solar wind regime is expected by 04 Jan.

Geospace

24 hr Summary: The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled.

Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be mostly quiet with isolated unsettled periods for the next three days (02-04 Jan).
