Here is the current forecast discussion on space weather and geophysical activity, issued 2022 Aug 31 1230 UTC.
Solar Activity
24 hr Summary: Solar activity was moderate. Region 3089 (S22W06, Eac/beta-gamma) remained quiet and inactive. Region 3086 (S23W53, Dso/beta) decreased in area and remained inactive.
Region 3088 (S27, L=301) produced numerous eruptive CMEs from around the W limb and a few associated flares. A pair of M1 flares occurred at 30/0140 and 30/0213 UTC. A long duration M2.1 flare began at 30/1804 UTC and peaked at 30/1929 UTC. A type II radio sweep was also observed by RSTN at 30/1741 UTC. Shortly after, a very eruptive far-side asymmetric halo CME became visible in NASA SOHO LASCO C2 and C3 images. No CMEs were observed today on the Sun-Earth line.
Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be low-moderate with a chance for M-flares 31 Aug - 02 Sep.
Energetic Particle
24 hr Summary: The greater than 10 MeV proton flux returned to near background ambient levels. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was normal to moderate.
Forecast: No proton events are expected on 31 Aug-02 Sep. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be at normal to moderate levels on 31 Aug, and high levels on 01-02 Sep.
Solar Wind
24 hr Summary: An enhanced solar wind persisted through the period due to combined negative polarity CH HSS and possible CME influences. A weak interplanetary shock or transient passage was observed at L1 by DSCOVR and NASA ACE at 30/1853 UTC. Total field strength was elevated to 15 nT, while Bz was variable and reached a maximum southward deflection of -7 nT. Solar wind speeds steadily increased to near 600 km/s. Phi was predominantly negative until the glancing blow interplanetary transient passage.
Forecast: Enhanced solar wind conditions are expected over 31 Aug due to a combination of CME effects and CH HSS influence. Ambient quiet conditions are forecast for 01-02 Sep.
Geospace
24 hr Summary: The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled.
Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled conditions on 31 Aug under waning CH HSS and CME influences. Quiet conditions are forecast for 01-02 Sep.
