Here is the current forecast discussion on space weather and geophysical activity, issued 2022 Sep 10 1230 UTC.
Solar Activity
24 hr Summary: Solar activity was at low levels due to weak C-class flare activity from Regions 3097 (S11W32, Bxo/beta) and 3098 (N18W01, Cao/beta). Little change was noted in these regions. New Region 3100 (S25E55, Cso/beta) also produced a weak C-class flare. New Region 3099 (N12E39, Hax/alpha) was also numbered this period. C-class activity was also noted on the SE limb from an unnumbered area of plage.
A slow-moving CME was observed in LASCO coronagraph imagery off the SE limb beginning at about 10/0448 UTC. The source of this CME is unknown at this time. Analysis is ongoing for any potential Earth-directed component.
Forecast: Solar activity is likely to continue at low levels over 10-12 Sep.
Energetic Particles
24 hr Summary: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux reached high levels with a peak of 11,844 pfu observed at 09/1510 UTC. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at slightly enhanced levels to 1.16 pfu observed at 10/0940 UTC due to backside CME activity from 08 Sep.
Forecast: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to continue at high levels over 10-12 Sep. The 10 MeV protons observed at GOES are expected to remain at or near background levels over 10-12 Sep.
Solar Wind
24 hr Summary: Solar wind parameters, as measured by the DSCOVR spacecraft, suggested diminishing effects from a positive polarity CH HSS. Total magnetic field strength ranged between 5-7 nT while the Bz component varied between +5 to -6 nT. Wind speeds steadily decreased through the period from ~490 km/s to ~400 km/s. The phi angle was in a predominantly oriented in a positive sector.
Forecast: The solar wind environment is expected to continue to trend at or near background levels on 10-12 Sep.
Geospace
24 hr Summary: The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled in response to positive polarity CH HSS influences.
Forecast: The geomagnetic field is likely to be at quiet to unsettled levels on 10-11 Sep. Quiet conditions are likely on 12 Sep.
