Solar Activity
24 hr Summary: Solar activity reached moderate levels this period due to an M1/Sf flare from Region 3182 (S16E53, Eki/beta-gamma) at 07/0052 UTC. C-class flare activity was observed from Regions 3181 (S20W01, Dki/beta), 3182, and 3183 (S17W29, Dso/beta). Moderate growth was noted in Regions 3182 and 3183, while the remaining regions were either stable or in decay. No Earth-directed CMEs were detected in available data.
Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be low, with a chance for M-class flares and a slight chance for X-class flares, over 07-09 Jan.
Energetic Particle
24 hr Summary: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was normal to moderate and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux was steady at background levels.
Forecast: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be normal to moderate over 07-09 Jan. There is a slight chance for the greater than 10 MeV proton flux to reach minor storm levels over 07-09 Jan.
Solar Wind
24 hr Summary: The solar wind environment was slightly enhanced under persistent negative polarity CH HSS influence. Total magnetic field strength ranged from 5-11 nT and Bz ranged between +9/-7 nT. Solar wind speeds ranged between 420-520 km/s.
Forecast: Slightly elevated solar wind conditions are expected to prevail over 07-09 Jan due to continued negative polarity CH HSS influences.
Geospace
24 hr Summary: The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled this period under persistent negative polarity CH HSS influences.
Forecast: Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected to prevail over 07-09 Jan due to negative polarity CH HSS influences.
