They used to make standard fluorescent lamp fixtures (shop lights)
with a 6" (!!) cord and an electronic ballast. Noisy beasts. I added
a filter and that took care of the noise, but one had to use an extension
cord for most hookups. I think they make "cheap" lights and cut
costs wherever they can....just my HO.
