One other thing to watch with preamps:   even though the TV  stations may 
be distant, close by FM stations can overload the preamp  and cause problems. 
 This may be especially true for certain high band VHF  TV stations (7-13; 
174 - 216 MHz), where the TV station is on the second  harmonic of the FM 
station, and overload by the FM station may result in a real  big signal at 
twice its frequency.
