Hi all,

Well, I too thought they might have shown up on RTTY by now, and they may
just do that very thing.

BUT - and it is a big BUT, if they do, then the time left available to them
means that the pile-ups are going to be huge, and probably very unruly. It
is also quite likely that they won't stay too long on RTTY at any or each
session, unlike XR0X.

OTOH, Doug and the crew at XR0X have done a great job with RTTY, making sure
that they put it on often enough, and at a high rate, so as to enable many
of us to bag that as a new one.

Having seen so many derogatory comments on the dx cluster, and via email,
about the operation at Ducie, I feel a bit saddened that they are being
slighted in this way, as the majority of the Pitcairn Islanders are probably
not used to handling the pile-ups they are getting on Ducie. I am hoping
that this trip will serve as a "teaching session" for them, and that they
will then go to Ducie that bit more often after this trip, with the result
that it won't be quite the rarity it is now.

I almost wonder if the pre-trip hype wasn't a bit over-optimistic?

I also have to wonder about the excuse of "hardware" problems! How many
times have we seen that excuse in recent times to explain the lack of RTTY,
when all they need is MMTTY, or even one of the other soundcard programs
that are widely available?

Lastly, we must remember that it is THEIR trip, and as Don said, they can do
what they want! Despite that, I will be sending an email to one of the
pilots asking if RTTY is possible!

73 to all,
Phil GU0SUP
