For 2001 WPX it was BIG. 38 uniques of which 19 had serial
numbers of 2 or less. If you include the "Uniques with
alternatives ..." category it goes to 56 and 23. This is
NOT the "Uniques with alternatives verified by log checking"
category.
Needless to say we were quite p***ed off by this. However,
this was consistently applied and, according to a couple
of comments, did not impact the final standings. I'm not
sure about this but whatever. History.
We learned from this experience. In 2001 CQWW DX RTTY we
did SOSB instead of MS or MM. Result? Using the master
call database and adding the logs from say 15m and 20m to
check the 40m log and requiring that an added call appear
twice (in the WT4I master call maintenance software) we
lowered are uniques substantially.
For example. 15m started out with 217 uniques. By adding
our logs as above this number dropped to 120. 20m was about
the same and 40 went from 91 to 7.
We didn't say anything last year. That is until Glenn posted
on the contesting.com page. Two of our team members did
comment to that. What we did is change our strategy on how
we operate in these contests. Mike, KH6ND suggested SOSB.
It worked. It was much better than NOT CONTESTING AT ALL.
We all had fun.
I support the efforts of the log checkers. I may not agree
with ALL their decisions but I abide by them. If I don't
like what a sponsoring organization is doing or has done I
don't participate in that event. I have two that have taken
extreme actions with my entry in one event and I won't play
in that anymore. Read the end of the rules. "The decision of
the committee is final".
I wondered this morning why I had 137 emails to download. When
I saw the first "UNB analysis" subject it was clear.
I appreciate these reports. It helps a lot. I learn and grow
from this information. In WPX we lost 11% of our score. This
time we lost 1.5% on 15, 4.4% on 20 and 2.9% on 40. Much
better.
I just downloaded my CQWW DX SSB reports and I have a lot
to learn from this one. I did SOSB 20m and was dinged 11%.
Mostly my fault and mostly correctable.
To Eddie and Glenn. I hope this doesn't curtail the availability
of UBNs. I for one use them.
73 and Aloha.
