Hello Enzo - First you need to tell us what you know already. Do you
understand the difference between AFSK and FSK? That is key to correct
wiring. The RTTY jack on the 1000MP line (and 990) has ground, FSK SHIFT,
AUDIO OUT, and PTT. There is no audio input here and thus you cannot use
this jack for AFSK RTTY. If you plan to operate AFSK, you will need to use
the PACKET jack, which has both AUDIO IN and OUT pins, as well as PTT (which
is in parallel with the PTT pin on the RTTY jack. The pinouts for the RTTY
and PACKET jacks are detailed at http://www.qsl.net/wa9als/pk232.htm.

Now, FSK will make some parts of your life simpler, and I recommend it for
RTTY. You won't have to be bothered, and I mean bothered, with making sure
your AFSK audio is not overdriving your rig. In addition, your frequency
readout will be accurate, your DX spots will be accurate etc.

So for FSK wiring, you will be connecting only the audio output pin of the
RTTY jack to the soundcard input. Then you need to connect the TxD pin of
your legacy com port to the FSK SHIFT pin of the RTTY jack, preferably
through a transistor switch.

You will also need to deal with PTT, which can be done in a variety of ways.
The easiest thing to do is make a 3-wire cable (shield and 2 wires) with one
wire being PTT and the other FSK. Each of these lines would pass from the
appropriate com port pin (TxD for FSK and RTS for PTT) through a 1-3K
resistor to the base of a 2n2222 or 2n3904 transistor. The emitter is
grounded and the collector goes to either the FSK or PTT pins of the RTTY
jack, respectively.

You can also handle PTT via rig control, if you have that going. When
wiring for both AFSK and FSK (you might want to operate PSK etc) with the
FT-1000MP, you can save one line since the PTT pins of the RTTY and PACKET
jacks are in parallel - Thus you only need one PTT connection.

Does of any of this help? 73 - John, WA9ALS

the PC sound card.
I'm new in this so any help will be appreciated very much!
