This information was received, and asked to be forwarded by Eddie. That is
all that I'm doing, so PLEASE "don't shoot the messenger"!

C'Ya, Shelby

The JARTS 'cabrillo' saga.

I have been reading the JARTS 'cabrillo' thread with great interest.
Here are the facts and the 'behind the scenes' activities, as I see them.

February 10, 2003 I received a request from JA1BHK for Cabrillo
specifications and format.
I directed Maza to Trey's website.

February 17,2003 I noticed that the JARTS website had added a form of
'Cabrillo' requirement for log submissions. I advised Maza and Hiro,
February 18, 2003, that their Header format, namely, CATEGORY: CONTEST: and
also their requirement to insert a Continent abbreviation in ARRL-SECTION:
did not comply with an already proven Cabrillo format.

I also enquired if JARTS would be using WT4I's tools for log checking and if
so, we would have to make a few changes to the scoring/multiplier credits
because JARTS decided that prefixes like 7L4, 7K4 etc. would be scored as a
JA4, despite the fact that these stations are located in JA1!

In the meantime I had advised Ron, K5DJ that JARTS were planning to use
Cabrillo for log submissions but until we received clarification from the
contest organisers, it seemed futile to create a premature JARTS module for
Writelog, he agreed.

To date, there has been NO response from either Maza or Hiro regarding the
issues as outlined above. It appears that JARTS wanted to 'do it their way'
and now the poop hits the fan.

Incidently, WT4I's Cabrillo Tools has fully supported JARTS for quite some
time, however, if you use the converter you will have to edit the Header as
per http://www.edsoftz.com/JARTS/2003/cabrillo.html to comply with JARTS'
non conformity.
