I don't get nearly as many as when I was signed up for a yahoo group with all the options turned off. This happened to me with 2 previous ISPs so I decided to try not signing up for them with the last 2. The amount of junk I receive is now much less. And what I do get is less offensive.

But one does need to go into Yahoo's "Marketing Preferences" in your Yahoo
profile and opt out of the junk mail.  The default is on, which would
certainly explain your experience.

Whenever I was subscribed to a list on yahoo, my spam level went up an order of magnitude. I will not subscribe with this addy to anything on yahoo. They must make a mint selling addys to spammers.
