I start all my buffers with a space. No <CR> anywhere in any of my buffers. 
I wish everyone did it this way. Reason: Your second point below - getting 
case synchronization with the USOS function. Why throw away that 
opportunity at the start of the transmission? A simple space is totally 
adequate on my screen as a separator, since I am watching it as it prints 
so I can click on what I need. Also - my computer screen windows for the 
displayed text are small, and every <CR> throws away a line.
