I own two AL-80B amplifiers. I did also own the SB-1000 but shorted the
transformer twice. I never had any problems with the
AL-80B's. I usually keep them at 500 watts if I use them in RTTY contests. I
run them on 110VAC.

I used the Heathkit version, the SB-1000, for several years and it was a good
performer. I eventually modified it for six meters and
still use it there occasionally.
One caveat: When running RTTY and especially during a contest or DXPedition,
keep the power down to about 600 watts out. If you run
it at full CW/SSB power, you will soon learn what an unhappy power
transformer smells like. :-)
