Remember this crucial point:
The only thing restricting BW today is the general unavailability of radios with SSB bandwidths greater than the average of 2.45 kHz BW.

FYI---- FWIW, a Ten-Tec Orion (original or Mdl-II, 565/566) has an adjustable SSB TX bandwidth of up to 3KHz wide. These were available for over 10 years. They are 'out-of-production' now, but easily found for reasonable prices (depends on your budget).
