I am one of those that contends you have to listen to RTTY. Just like with
CW and phone you get clues about the signal quality and can make decisions
about your decode based on what you hear.
In MMTTY you can set the tones lower. 1275/1445 are one popular
combination. It's in the options window someplace.
Regarding callers off frequency - I don't know N1MM but in Writelog you can
open a "clone" window to set up a different set of decode options. I will
have my "main" window with no AFC and the clone with AFC. Surely there is
something similar in N1MM.
For callers WAY off frequency, once I realize they are possibly calling me,
I just spin the RIT roughly in their direction and CQ again. With practice
you can hit it close the first time. Be sure to program in whatever macro
in N1MM clears the RIT at the end of the QSO (again something Wrielog has
and I'm sure N1MM must also have.)
Nobody NEEDS to do RTTY contesting, but it sure is fun! Hope this helps and
