I received the following in my Inbox today. When the Spectrum Defense Fund
letter from K1ZZ arrived in the snail mail box I almost choked when reading it.
I have supported the Spectrum Defense Fund in the past, but considering
RM-11708, declined to do so again this year and threw the letter in the round
file. Now there is a follow up letter via email urging Spectrum Defense Fund
contributions. Could it be they are having problems getting people to pony up
this year? Gee, I wonder why?
This is a heaping plate full of chutzpah! From my perspective the biggest
threats to amateur band spectrum today are ARRL, K1ZZ, the ARRL Board, Winlink
users and RM-11708. I’m thinking seriously about the following reply.
“Dear Clarke,
Thanks for your reminder about making a contribution to the ARRL Spectrum
Defense Fund. I really take to heart your comment that, “We must continue to
be vigilant and keep our frequencies safe from threats and ongoing assaults
from commercial pressures.”
With that thought in mind, I look forward to making a significant contribution
to the ARRL Spectrum Defense Fund as soon as ARRL petitions the FCC to rescind
its misbegotten and ill-conceived RM-11708 proposal. Failing such action on
the part of ARRL I see no reason to support the chief threat to Amateur Radio
Spectrum usage, the ARRL itself.
Sincerely,
Gary Senesac AL9A
ARRL Life Member – CW, RTTY and PSK narrow sub-band user who will be clobbered
should this horrendous proposal be approved.”
Any thoughts?
73,
Gary AL9A

Subject: 2014 Spectrum Defense Needs You!
Dear AL9A,
Several weeks ago you received a letter from ARRL CEO Dave Sumner, K1ZZ, asking
for your support of the 2014 Spectrum Defense Fund.
If you have not done so already, I hope you will consider a contribution at
this time to this important fund, and help ARRL’s efforts in defending
our access to the frequency bands. As CEO Sumner noted in his letter, our
efforts against past threats, including Broadband over Power Lines,
have been vital in keeping spectrum open to Amateur Radio operators. We must
continue to be vigilant and keep our frequencies safe from
threats and ongoing assaults from commercial pressures.
Please support the 2014 Spectrum Defense Fund, and help keep Amateur Radio
frequencies available to us all. Click here to make your contribution today.
Thank you, and sincere 73,
Lauren B. Clarke, KB1YDD
ARRL Development Manager
