Ever been to a really serious car show? Did ya' notice the judges who
were looking for the chalk marks on the chassis and engine compartment?
Bear in mind, we are talking about cars that were built 50 years ago and
have since been completely disassembled, cleaned down to bare metal,
repainted, and reassembled. Who's to know what chalk marks were there
when the car left the factory?
And, then, there are the railfans who turn into rivet counters. These
are the guys who will bad mouth an HO scale (1:87 scale) locomotive if
it doesn't show exactly the same number of rivets on the boiler that
they think the full size locomotive had. Given that every steam
locomotive was hand built by human beings, the number of rivets used was
bound to have a little variation.
There are nit-pickers in every hobby.
