Thanks for taking the time to explain, Jeff
I have a microsoft wheel mouse optical. Microsoft
seems to have good support for their hardware. I
searched for how to do it and discovered they
have provided "intellipoint" to customize mouse
functions. I installed it and learned exactly how
to substitute the wheel press for a supported
keyboard key. Unfortunately, the esc key is not
on their list of supported
reassignments. WriteLog can re-define keys, so
I was able to point the wheel press to a
supported key in WL (I used alt-F1) and then
reassign Alt-F1 to MessageAbortTransmission within WL.
It works. I can press the wheel key and abort the
transmission. I was hoping I could do it without
WL having focus, but it doesn't work that way (so
far). But at least my left shoulder can take a
break in the next contest. Now I have to start
working on the muscle memory aspect - teaching my
mouse wheel finger the new tricks.
Before yesterday, I didn't even realize the wheel was also a button... duh.
Thanks for all the tips, guys.

Hi Jerry,
I have a Logitech Mouse Model 325.
I googled that and went to the Logitech Support
site and had to download an app called SetPoint
After downloading, I started the little program
and had to "dumb" around a bit till I found the
place to set up what they called the Middle
Button (which turned out to be the scroll wheel
press down button) and after a couple mis-tries
got to the point where I could click on a box,
press the escape key on the keyboard and that
told the mouse wheel button to become Escape.
Hope this helps.
If you have a different brand, you are on you own :)

I need that - how do I re-map it?

Someone mentioned that they sit with their
finger/thumb on the escape key when they are
calling CQ.Ã? I used to do that too. I
re-mapped my mouse roller wheel so that when I
push down on the wheel, it sends
escape.Ã? Much more convenient than sitting in
a bind on the chair so that my left hand is
always on the keyboard.Ã? Jeff W4PJW
