Hi Neil,

Nice score from up there. I would like to hear about your new 40 meter antenna
?? I have been wanting to put up some type of directional antenna on that
band. I had a half square pointed NW/SE
a couple years ago and it worked pretty good. It fell down and I never did put
it back up.

Right now I have a 40 meter zepp @ 50 ft and wire vertical with 4 elevated
radials. Both work OK.
The zepp favors EU but I notice it has a null to South America. The vertical
covers that direction
nicely. I have been thinking about some phased verticals for 40 meters. I have
also been thinking about putting up anothor inverted L on 80 and phasing those
as well.

I have and idea for your problem on 20 meters. My zepp acts like two half
waves in phase and pointed in a NE/SW direction in favors those directions. I
have just put up a simple 20 meter
dipole - broadside NW/SE. It works great. I have no problems busting CARR and
AF pileups.
If you want some directivity maybe try a 2 el switchable quad. in the
directions you want to cover.

I also remember W4AN had a 4 square on 20 meters. Verticals seem to work
pretty good on 20 meters. My friend K8MR has done some tests and in some cases
a vertical will outperform a
horizontally polorized antenna on 20 meters...

73, Jeff
