(and, Chattahoochee and Chattooga both come out CHTT when the vowels are
dropped, but they seem to be the only ones.)

CTH and CTG would probably cure that.      :-)

Anyway, what's done is done I guess. It just seems like some pretty weird 
abbreviations were picked.
