I don't know if this is a worthwhile clue or not, particularly in
view of the '850s that all seem to work, but when I bought my Smart
Antenna Switch several years ago, they shipped a driver to be
accessed from autoexec.bat that "asserted the RTS line." If I
remember the explanation, it seems the 850 (probably the IF232)
tends to not realize that a computer is wanting to talk to it until
it talks to it once, and then it sings like a canary.
I'll try to find the wording Tim used for it and pass it along.
I have the driver in line, and it works on boot up, so I never have
any problem. (In re-reading this, I see I didn't make it clear, but I
am using an '850.)
