Thanks to W6RCL's suggestion, I found the answer was changing the CAT 
rate in the 817 to 4800 baud. Works fine, now.

Now, a real toughy...how about using the new Ten Tec Argonaut 516? Has a 
seriail port, but doesn't work with the Ten Tec setting.
