I think this has been posed previously on this reflector, but in the world
of software and computers six months is a long time and many changes are
common.

I am looking for software that will allow one to have a USB to Serial Port
unit that makes the COM port accessible to DOS programs such as TR.

1. The ideal software would allow one to run under DOS and have a driver
that interfaces the USB Port (not a known thing in the DOS world) to a USB
to Serial adapter in a way that is transparent to programs running under DOS
(e.g. TR).

2. An acceptable alternative would be a driver which interfaces the USB to
Serial Port adapter under a Win98 operating system (USB is at least known to
that OP system) and manages a COM port so that TR can interact with the COM
port.

The objective in both cases is to be able to interface the "new, improved"
laptops that have no serial ports with a radio that TR can control. Keying
could be done via the LPT port which is still present. Since many laptops
have built in LAN connections I would suppose that a connection to the
Internet via Telnet would also be possible.

Anyway, if someone has written such software or has figured out a solution
using currently available software I should like to hear from them.

Tod, KØTO
