Birdies aren't too surprising in that rig. With no load on the antenna
input they will
of course be much stronger. Put a 50 ohm load on it such as a dummy load or
just a small resistor and the birdies should really drop in strength. With
an antenna and normal band noise, the birdies will be almost unreadable.
