Why not just put the transciever funtion on a PCAMCIA card and
shove it into a laptop. Fully integrate the transciever funtions with TR or CT
and a TSR logging program for awards tracking. QRP out to a brick. You select
the brick size for
your needs. Wind the software to include DSP by using the soundcard function as
in KA9W's webpage. Since everything is software driven you can time share with
a tropo sounder function that would warn of FOT changes for best times to QSY

Dump the front panel, let us do custom software on a PC for each type of
activity, Contesting, CW operating etc.
Digital control of the AF and RF gain controls as well as all other functions
Lots of good filters as suggested by others.
DSP in the IF level with full control by the operator, all changes to
filtering on the fly without stopping to reconfigure.
