But, by the same argument, most of those overdriven rigs have ALC metering on
them (demographically speaking). ALC metering is one place where I don't find I
get more information out of a meter than out of a peak LED, and a meter might
just encourage me to "drive it a little higher, there's still scale above that
ALC line".
On a similar topic, I got on 20m SSB last night with the Omni VI+, something I
rarely do other than during contests, and was reminded of how nice the RX sounds
in that mode. I'll have to do that more often.
