The mod done to the OMni 6 was to reduce the excessive drift caused by heat
from the finals. It causes the bfo to drift. On the ones I had, I removed
the speaker and installed a small 24v fan which I ran on 12vdc. This proved
to almost eliminate the drifting bfo and stabilized the transmitter. For
some reason, TT doesn't believe in adaquate cabinet venilation. I Think some
vent holes in the cabinet top would do the trick. The info about the drift
came from QST.
No, keying on 20m is very poor. Several of us have brought this to the
ARRL's attention but they and TT continue to ignore us.
