Maybe I don't understand the problem with the Pegasus.

With my IC-765, when I press the key I get a sidetone even if the rig is
not transmitting. Surely, the Pegasus does the same. 

So, to zero-beat a received signal, I just press the key and tune until
the incoming signal tone matches the keying sidetone. Takes a second or
two at most. No switches to throw, etc. This requires, of course, that
the sidetone frequency be set accurately to the CW offset frequency.

Why won't something like this work with the Pegasus?
