I guess I don't understand. I've heard the frequency instability problem
with the scout described as being a result of the same processor that
manages frequency lock being used for the internal keyer, and at fast code
speeds being unable to keep up. If that is indeed the case, then going to an
external keyer and not burdening the processor ought to prevent the problem.
Perhaps we're dealing with two frequency stability problems here; normal
steady drift due to temp change, and jumping around unpredictably due the
CPU bandwidth problems at high CW rates. Or a third possibility I suppose
might be high CW rates causing more rapid thermal drift?

I'm a happy Omni V user, but I am enjoying the thread here to discuss simple
low cost HF rigs, mobile applications, etc. A portable rig is surely in my
future at some point and I find this very interesting.
