Hi Richard--

Yours is a noble endeavor.  I would suggest that your $100 figure is not
realistic for a 100 watt HF radio with much quality and ease of use for
newcomers.  Although $2,500 is a bit high, perhaps, a more realistic figure
would be $400 or $500.  That would take in all sorts of good rigs which
would serve your newcomers far better than 'cheap and dirty.'  You may be
doing them a disservice to shoot so low.
