[TenTec] ten-tec hand microphone?

Does anyone know if the Tentec hand microphone is an electric unit? 
Does it require power to operate of can you just use it as a dynamic 
microphone. I have a spare one and want to try it on a rig that does 
not have 4 volts on the power pin.
