Back in the late-40's a couple of years after the end of WWII, you could
walk into Crabtree's Radio in Dallas, TX with a parts list for a KW AM
phone rig, receiver, antenna parts, etc. etc. You could walk out an hour
or so later - had to spend a lot of time lookin' and visitin' - with
everything needed for a new rig or entire station. And everything was
Made in the USA.

Plus, there was about a 1/2 acre lot out back that was crammed with
surplus of every description, often sold by the pound, most of it brand
new still in overseas packaging.

Glad I am old enough to have been there . . . and to have built much of
my first station from such parts.
