I've not owned a Century 22, only wished that I did. But I
think someone came real close to the solution, or at least
what I'd look for first. I suspect the -22 has a vswr
shutdown circuit in it and as you tune the ATU, this
shutdown circuit is operating. To check it, tune your ATU
with very low power from the -22 or with another source
(e.g. noise bridge) and see if it still occurs. If it is
truly a problem, the first place I'd look would be in the
vswr protection circuit.
