I have seen SO-239 connectors flash over the face with charged clouds passing by the antennas. The energy stored in 200 feet of RG-8 makes a loud enough snap to make one rise a foot or so when its not expected. That snap probably takes 15 KV at DC... 2/3 joule. There was no lightning that night, just heavily charged clouds in motion. 73, Jerry, K0CQ -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/FAQ/tentec Submissions: tentec@contesting.com Administrative requests: tentec-REQUEST@contesting.com Problems: owner-tentec@contesting.com |
