Well,  yes,  but,  hi.  The "basic " 9 MHz IF goes all the
way through the Corsair EXCEPT for a brief 2nd 6.3 IF
conversion ONLY for band pass tuning,  then the signal
is again mixed right back to 9 MHz for all the final IF
fooling around right up to detection and the audio stages.
The same LO does both the up and down conversion from 
and back to 9MHz for the band pass filter/optional filter bank. 

So I did error in my statement above;  band pass filtering/tuning
is done at the 2nd IF.

So,  again,  as I said earlier, the Corsair is "basically"
a single conversion radio.    The brief journey
to the other IF frequency is only for the pass band tuning/filtering
function;  there is no added gain at this "interlude" IF frequency, hi.

Anyway,  to most folks,  the Corsair will "usually" sound
quieter than the 340,  but they will both "usually" detect
and play the same weak signals.
