[TenTec] Omni V audio out jack?

I'm playing with the Omni V audio output jack.  My intent is to feed the
line level to a stereo amplifier (why -- because it's there!).

Anyway - I assumed the audio output jack on the rear of the Omni V would be
muted during transmit.  Much to my surprise -- it isn't.  On transmit I get
white noise.

Is this normal?  Has the pilot made another error?
