Those of you who lump "Orion owners" into a generic group ALL wanting their
own reflector is simply not accurate and a slap to the face of some of us. I
DO NOT and have NEVER asked for anything separate for the Orion...so your
theory is already dead meat. I did not subscribe to Yahoo because of all of
the reasons stated and was personally very happy to read the Ten Tec
reflector here each day, picking out what I was interested in from my
digest.
So the comment about "what is it with Orion owners" is ridiculous and
offensive...and lumping everyone who owns an Orion into that statment is
very unfair and needs to be retracted. I will join the contesting.com group
simply to keep up on Orion postings if that is what I have to do, HOWEVER, I
personally think it is a mistake to splinter off another group and I would
rather keep ALL of the Orion information centrally located on this
reflector, where it belongs.
The actions of a few who want their own group (whatever their personal
agenda) should NOT be automatically attached to the Orion owners group as a
whole.
This whole scenario reminds me of all of the splits I have seen over the
years in the Churches AND the radio clubs. There always will be a few who
have little personal agendas that usually have a big negative effect on
everyone else. Ridiculous. Tommy WD4K

I sent the contesting.com list admin a strongly worded statement for
allowing a Ten*Tec subgroup on contesting.com.

Unfortunately, it's too late to stop this action, but let's hope they do not
allow more balkanization of the Ten-Tec reflector on contesting.com.

Just what is it with the Orion owners? They own what is arguably the finest
radio in the world and it just seems they don't want to be part of this
"family." I hope to own one eventually too, but I'll be damned if I will
subscribe to yet-another-reflector just to hear about that radio. This list
is just fine and has been for many years. This is a sad day for all Ten Tec
fans.

You know, it's interesting that a HUGE manufacturer like Yaesu can get by
with just one reflector, but Orion owners insist on having their own.

Very sad indeed.

An FT-1000MP reflector has existed for years (and not on Yahoo).

Strange, Jim...

I don't know what software the YahooGroups use, but the software for the
lists at both
contesting.com and qth.net give all privileges to the listadmin; even
the ancient Majordomo
did that...

I concur with Paul & John's comments.
With Orion owners not wishing to stay on the Ten-Tec reflector, tips,
mods, etc. will take longer for comments in general to be made to the
Ten-Tec group.
Too bad.

Except, I did not originate the group; the originator
made some selection which I CANNOT change.
Anyway, as soon as the archives are dealt with,
I will be deleting the entire thing! Have not heard yet
from John, W3GQJ, who has been converting the
archives to .pdf format. However, his most recent work
is only up to February of 2003. He has quite a ways
to go, having converted the first 200 or so list postings,
with some 900+ to go!!

There are lists for just about every radio on Yahoo. Multiple lists for
Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood, Patcomm, SGC, TenTec, etc. There is no "one" list =
for
any manufacturer. Most specialized groups have hundreds, sometimes,
thousands of members. =0D

TT'ers,

I blew something in my 238 while CQ'ing on 10 with high power. Antenna was
my F12 C3 low in the band where it is over 2:1, but not much over.

Didn't smell any smoke. It still works, but doesn't have the matching
range it used to. For instance, it would no longer tune an 80 meter dipole
cut for CW in the phone band. I have been qrt since last spring and don't
remember more specifics than that.

Any suggestions what to look at first (and second, third, etc.) Can't see
anything burned up.

73,

Ron - WA9IRV

Good idea, Phil, but I'm still looking for the group for discussing other
groups... oh wait, this *is* that group.

Hi Gary,Glad to be of some help.Just remember, don't use a lot of heat on
these little relays when resoldering them in.
This may be part of the problem;I suppose in a jam(like during a
contest),you could "borrow" a good relay from a band that you don't use to
keep you on the air.

It looks like anyone can read messages on the new
Yahoo Orion group - you don't have to join.

A "feature," I don't know if I would be so generous. I would suspect adding
a color display would increase the cost to of the Orion. I am not sure that
the fact the Pro II selling at a $1K less with the color display means that
the color display did not increase the cost of the Pro II. Maybe, if it had
of used a monochrome display it would of been reduced further in price.

A color display does not provide enhancement to many operators, especially
those that are blind, or color blind. Possibly an option that would offset
the additional costs would be the way to go.
