here are the settings: orion set according to the latest manual suggestions
except for mike gain which i cannot find on the radio ...besides having no
mike for the orion anyway ...
i changed the setting of com1 (to which the orion is connected) to 57600 and
unchecked the buffers ...
in MixW2 CONFIGURE
sound card settings input and output SB Live
otherwise on sound card settings default
output volume auxiliary up as far as it goes, same for microphone and
line-in
input volume microphone select and all the way up
i can copy psk31 but cannot transmit at all
again there is no PTT connection at all on the rig
VOX is on

PS: the nearly 24 hours of trying to load 1.358 did not work ...after
processing all those lines of code the message came up saying that there was
no way to be sure that the firmware was updated without error checking
...clearly it did not work since the startup screen shows 1.356 still
