I agree, in fact that's what I did. I listen to cw with the 1.8khz/6.3mhz
filter and upon finding a signal that needs filtering help I then engage the
500hz/6.3mhz filter, if it needs more, I engage the 1.8khz/9mhz filter and
then if I need more I switch to the 250hz/6.3mhz filter with the 1.8khz/9mhz
filter engaged/cascaded. But wait, there's more! Then hit the lpf to get the
high noise off and then hit the dsp button. Now, that signal is way up off
the deck and as long as I have signal, I can copy.
My guess is that anything narrower and my single narrow slot wouldnt be as
versatile were it a 500hz or narrower. With the 1.8khz filter in the narrow
slot, its just wide enough to cascade with the 2.4khz/6.3mhz
filter in ssb. I did have the 2.4khz/9mhz filter in there which affected ssb
nicely, but wasnt all that helpful for cw. The 1.8khz/9mhz narrow filter is
just right for me.
I carried that technique over to the Jupiter and I found it worked nicely
there as well, but there's no cascading option. On the Jupiter its not
really needed as you have narrowed both IFs digitally anyway, or so it
seems.
Then hitting the dsp its as though you hear it thru a dijeridoo. Sounding
fine.
