All of my antennas, 80m dipole, 40m , el Quad, etc., are fed with home brew
open wire line and tuned with a Johnson KW Match Box. I seem to have no
trouble tuning my match box, using an RF Applications pwr/SWR bridge
connected directly to the back of my Titan 3 amp. Yes, the SWR bridge does
read as high as 2KW, but what's the significance of that when I tune the
match box with 20 watts. Ten Tec's Titan 3 amp operators manual suggested
tune-up is 'applying 20 watts....' and what the Orion does presently is
suited perfectly for that.
Since your watt meter reads a max of 15w, it would seem to me that it would
be more reasonable to get a better SWR bridge than to change the way the
main item in your ham shack operates. That would solve your problem.
Changing the TUNE power would also solve your problem, but possible create a
different problem for the hundreds of other hams that have adequate test
equipment.
Of course, from what I understand, Ten Tec's programmer seriously consider
every suggestion they receive.
