Interesting!! I've got two Orions here and they both do the same.

Were you watching the RF output waveform with a scope? The sidetone sounds
excellent at high speeds, it's just that on mine, the RF output does not
follow the input keying waveform. It's not a matter of what software you are
using, nor does it matter if you keying with an open collector transistor or
a reed relay, as long as the input keying waveform is good into the Orion.
Do you also key via the AUX I/O PTT line?
