On the 229 tuner I had it looked like the knobs they used did not fit the shafts so they ground off one side of the shaft which left it in a triangular shaped mess so the knobs would fit on. Looked kind of pitiful.

We purchased a tuner from TT a couple of years ago and one of the knobs was
no good out of the box.
Since they refuse to put brass inserts in their knobs, there is a couple
ways around this.
One is replace all of the knobs with Radio Shack or some other brand right
away and when you sell it put the T T knobs back on.
Another way to fix cracked ones is to put the wire around the inside part
and pull it back in shape and then fill the space between the outside and
inside with epoxy. Dont epoxy the screw.
Another way is to buy a brand X radio (unthinkable)
