One Extra class licensee, called and asked me to come help him "make a
dipole" antenna. I asked him how he got his license, and he replied, "by
memorizing the test." He was a very good CW op, perhaps from the military
and I liked him as a person so I suppose "helping" him "make a dipole"
(guess who did all the making) wasn't detrimental to the service. I still
wonder how anybody could even get a Novice license without knowing how to
"make a dipole".

PEACE
Scott

P.S.
I remember hiding under the blanket as a kid with a flashlight and my
crystal set [that I built myself] with headphones on well after bedtime. I
think dad knew I was cheating, staying up past bedtime "playing radio" but
he had been a Radioman in the Pacific in WWII and knew the fascination and
didn't want to stifle my enthusiasm. I also think he knew I used to sneak
out late at night and sit in the front seat of the 1961 Caddillac listening
to the "wonderbar" radio DXing broadcast stations all across the nation.
That was back when there were "clear channels" like WSM Nashville, NBC New
York, KDK Pittsburgh etc. Thanks Dad!
